Bunny Hennessey studio portrait with large paintings

Bunny Hennessey (b. 1991) is a painter who lives and works in London, and has recently graduated from BA Fine Art at City & Guilds of London Art School. Her work is about the body: its flimsy boundaries, its ephemerality and its tendency to leak both physically and emotionally. Imagining paint as stagnant fluid in her body that needs to be expelled, Hennessey works in quick bursts to record exact sensations that she experiences. Using paint’s ability to mirror our body’s spectrum of permeability, the artist seeks to find the tipping point between the sinister and the naive, creating ambiguous figures that emerge and dissolve. Hennessey challenges the canvas edge to be less volatile, a static container that can withstand internal frenzy and mobility, in contrast to our messy and porous bodies.

Hennessey is the proud recipient of the Freelands Painting Prize 2024, as well as a nomination for the New Blood Emerging Art Prize 2024. She is excited to be continuing her studies on MA Painting at Slade School of Art - class of 2026.
